Why is a gram weight needed for a liquid food in Nutritionist Pro™?
- Nutritionist Pro™ offers many options for units when adding a custom ingredient or recipe. However, to calculate nutrition analysis, after combining different food items in a recipe, all foods must be in a gram weight. Since density of the liquid food can vary and impact the grams or weight of the liquid and since volume to weight is not the same for each food, a liquid food might need to be weighed to determine its gram value. For example, a cup of oil and a cup of light cream will have different gram weights. Sometimes the manufacturer of the food item can provide the volume to weight value if not, our suggestion is to weigh a certain amount of the liquid and add that as a measure for your custom ingredient.
- Steps for this in the application are as follows – On the measure screen of the custom ingredient or recipe select a volume measure, we offer many options such as ml, liter, cups, tbsp and more. Once you select the unit then type in the gram weight for that volume from the above step. Then save the ingredient.
- Many of our Axxya Systems liquid products do contain this gram to volume measure so you might also see this when you select our ingredients.
If your goal is to create a Nutrition Label for a liquid, then these additional steps will be needed.
- Open your recipe, make sure the measure screen has a volume unit as well for example, cups, liter, we offer a few volume measures.
- Now when you use this recipe to create a label on the label screen, the general tab offers metric options, once your recipe is in a volume option you will see this in the general tab. Select ML from the drop down. See picture below.
